True or False? Chemical Peel Edition

Chemical Peels: True or False?

1. Statement: You have to see visible flaking and peeling in order to get results.

 FALSE!

Skin is always shedding, and most of the time you don’t see it because it is shedding on a cellular level. If you receive a chemical peel and don’t see visible flaking, that’s fine! You’re still experiencing deep exfoliation, but you just can’t see it.

There are many factors that influence whether or not you see flaking post-treatment. Some of these include: genetics, topical skin hydration, regimen used pre-treatment, strength of peel formula, weather, and products used post-treatment. Remember: visible flaking is not a requirement for great results.

2. Statement: Chemical Peels are not safe for darker skin tones.

FALSE!

While it’s true that certain peel formulas may be too aggressive for those with deeper skin tones, there are plenty of formulas to choose from that are safe for everyone. Clients of all skin tones benefit from peels and can feel confident that they’re getting a safe treatment at Grove and Kane.

3. Statement: Chemical Peels are not for people with sensitive skin.

 FALSE!

Even sensitive skin can benefit from chemical peels. Clients with impaired barrier function and rosacea will actually see improvement in their redness and sensitivity by receiving monthly peels because peels encourage their skin to strengthen.

4. Statement: You can receive a chemical peel in the summertime.

 TRUE!

Peels are safe to perform all year long. If you use common-sense sun precautions (seek shade, wear hats, and reapply SPF), then you can continue to receive regular peel treatments in the summer months.
