What is Microneedling?

At Grove and Kane, we use the FDA-Cleared Rejuvapen NXT device. This device is called a “pen” that drives a cartridge of needles into the skin at a rate of 12,000 repetitions per minute. This creates many tiny punctures into the skin which elicits a wound-healing response. For 4-6 weeks after each treatment, your skin will be hard at work creating more collagen and elastin which will begin to plump lines, wrinkles and acne scars! We recommend 4 treatments in a row 4-6 weeks apart for best results, and then a treatment quarterly thereafter for maintenance.

Who is it for?

This treatment is Grove and Kane’s most advanced treatment for deep wrinkling and pitted acne scars. Both of these concerns stem from the loss of collagen either from age or repeated injury (as in the case with scars). While microneedling has been shown to improve hyperpigmentation as well, we still recommend chemical peels as our primary treatment for this concern.

What should I expect?

Your microneedling treatment will be quite different from the regular skin treatments you’ve come to know at Grove and Kane. First, your skin is thoroughly cleansed, and then a topical numbing agent is applied. This numbing agent will be left on the skin for about 20 minutes. After the numbing agent is removed, alcohol will be swiped onto the skin, and we are ready to begin!

The treatment itself may be slightly uncomfortable, but not painful. It takes about 45 minutes to microneedle the face, and more time to add on neck and chest.

You will feel like you have a light sunburn for 2-3 days after your treatment. Your skin will be red and may feel warm. We will recommend specific products for you to use after your treatment to protect and hydrate your skin. Your esthetician will also make sure you have vitamin C, retinol and peptide products in your regimen to enhance the results of your treatment and boost collagen synthesis even further!
