Why is Exfoliation Important?

Why is Exfoliation So Important?

1)    Our cell turnover slows down as we age. This means new skin cells are not being created at the rate they once were, causing our skin to look tired and dull. Exfoliation removes the outermost layer of dead skin cells, kick-starting the new cell growth that makes us glow!

2)    Exfoliation is like a workout for the skin. The action of removing dead skin cells and stimulating the outer layers of the skin jump-starts a whole host of rejuvenating processes in the skin. This strengthens barrier function and stimulates collagen production over time!

3)    Exfoliation allows our topical products to work better. It’s important to invest in quality serums and moisturizers to achieve our skin goals, but they may not be working properly if there are dead skin cells blocking their absorption! Clear the path for those awesome ingredients by exfoliating regularly.

4)    Exfoliation is the key to smooth, hydrated skin! Many people have the mistaken idea that experiencing dryness and flakiness must mean they need more moisturizer. While this may be true in some cases, many don’t realize that exfoliating is just as important as moisturizing!  Remove the dead, flaky skin cells prior to moisturizing for best results. I love using this metaphor to describe this concept: “Rake the leaves before you water the lawn.”
