What is Impaired Barrier Function?

If you’re noticing any of the following symptoms, you may have Impaired Barrier Function:

·      Dry, tight or flaky skin

·      Redness

·      Even mild (with no acids or actives) products sting or burn when applied

 

Causes of Impaired Barrier Function:

·      Over-exfoliation with scrubs, retinoids, or acids

·      Indoor heating during the winter months (causes low humidity)

·      Insufficient moisturizing

·      Chemical Peels, Dermaplaning or Microneedling (we expect these treatments to cause Impaired Barrier Function for a short period of time, which is why after-care is so important!)
